i’m pregnant, week 24

Week 24…crazy!  It is going by so fast…and my belly is growing every day!

This second trimester has been great!  I have so much more energy than the first trimester and I feel 100% better.  There are still days that I just don’t feel like ‘myself’, but I’m pregnant – it’s expected!  And, those days are few and far between, so overall I have been feeling great! 🙂

The last 4-5 weeks, I have noticed a big change in the size of my belly.  The baby is getting bigger…and I can tell!

(check out my last post to see previous pics!)

Week 18:

My appetite is definitely back and I crave real foods again!  I have been loving salads with a lot of toppings, as well as, brussels sprouts.  My body wants greens…but, it also wants carbs!  I have learned to give in to my cravings.  Thankfully, I haven’t been craving too much sugar on most days.  My eating has still been very healthy, so I am not too worried about what I am eating at this point.  I am just eating when I’m hungry (which is much more on some days!).

Week 20:

It feels great to workout.  Some days, I find that I definitely just need to take it easy and rest, but on the other days, I love my workouts.  I have been keeping them mostly low-key, just trying to get my body moving and to get my heart rate up for 30-45 minutes each day.  But, I am enjoying my workouts so much more!  I find them therapeautic and fun, whereas before, I felt like I needed to workout.  These days, I want to workout.  I want to be healthy for my baby…and for myself.  Walking and swimming are my workouts of choice these days, but I also still try to enjoy a slow run/jog once or twice a week, even though it is getting harder!

At week 22, Brant and I ran in a Turkey Trot in Orlando!

We took it slow, but kept a good pace, finishing in 31 minutes!

Week 22:

I feel the baby moving a lot, which definitely makes being pregnant very exciting.  It is a constant reminder of the little one inside of you…and a constant reminder that you are the one who needs to provide for this baby!  With each week that passes, we get more and more excited.  We can’t wait to feel the baby start kicking!

Week 24:

We have about 3 months to go…and our birth classes start this week!  It’s getting so close! 🙂

celebration, fl

After the Winter Park Farmer’s Market, we took a trip to Celebration, FL.  Celebration is Disney’s planned community.  It is suppossed to be a state of utopia, where everything is perfect.

I had to show you the pictures, just because I was in awe the whole time that we were there.  It is a funny little community.  All of the houses have front porches and driveways in the back, so as not to disturbe the look of the house.

They have a small downtown, with little shops and restaurants.

Even the dogs get delicious treats!

(yup!  those are dog treats!)

A cute post office.

And, an adorable little hotel.

We stopped for an ice cream while walking around…

…and enjoyed the view.

They create a winter wonderland every night during the month of December with an ice skating rink, holiday decorations, a Christmas Tree and SNOW!

It was definitely a site to see.

i’m pregnant: first trimester recap

Ok, so I promise that my blog will not turn into a blog completely related to being pregnant, but since it is the biggest thing happening to me and my husband in our lives right now, I will definitely be talking about it a lot!

It is a very exciting time for us, and the majority of my eating and exercise will be related to being pregnant.  (No more marathons for me right now!)  Plus, I hope that some of you will gain some insight and take away useful tips and advice from my posts.

I also want to use my blog as a way for me to track my pregnancy.  To see how I am feeling from week to week and to keep track of my workouts and nutrient intake.  What better way to start than to recap my first trimester. 🙂

Here we go…

Looking back, the first trimester was kind of a blur.  Where did those 3 months go?! We found out that I was pregnant about week 4 and immediately (even a little before) I started to feel sick.  I had a constant nauseous feeling all day long.  I was exhausted all the time.  I didn’t like it!  I was going crazy!  I wanted to be active, but I was way to tired and I wasn’t eating properly to fuel my workouts.  So, I didn’t do much.

I ate a lot of white flour – bread, saltines, pasta – with the occasional smoothie to try to get some protein into my body.  Every vegetable that I looked at made me feel even more sick.  Nothing was appealing to me at all!

During this time, I was definitely worried that I was not getting my body the nutrients that it needed.  But, I was reassured that the baby didn’t need a lot of nutrients right now because it is so small.  At that point, the most important thing to do is to make your body feel better and give in to its needs.

That was very hard for me at first, but week after week, it got better.  Until one day in week 10, I woke up and felt good!  I wasn’t nauseous!  It was awesome. 🙂  Since then, I have had a couple of off days, but the majority of the time I feel pretty darn good.

Week 11 belly photo:

During the first trimester, so much is happening to your body.  The baby is growing, even though you may not realize it.  I definitely had some days where I couldn’t believe that a baby was actually growing inside of me.  It felt surreal, but at the same time, so exciting!

At the beginning of week 10, we heard the baby’s heartbeat.  It was so fast (about 165 bpm), and so cool.  We were both unbelievably excited.  That’s when it really started to feel real.  Week 12, we had our first ultrasound for screening purposes.  There he/she was!  We could see our baby very clearly, all 2.5 inches of him!  Legs, feet, arms, hands, body and head.  It really looked like a baby. 🙂

Week 13 belly photo:

Now, we are on to the second trimester and I know that good things are in store.  I feel great and not nearly as tired as I was before.  The baby is growing so much more now.  We can’t wait for that 18 week ultrasound in a month!

an exciting announcement!

That’s right! We’re having a baby! And, we couldn’t be more excited!

Having a food blog makes being pregnant really hard to keep a secret!  Throughout my first trimester I was feeling very nauseous all day long, so eating healthy meals and snacks just didn’t cut it.  Instead, all vegetables and healthy food seemed to make me feel even more nauseous (go figure?!), so I mainly stuck with plain, bland foods like bread, pasta and cereal.  Boring, I know, but at that point it was all I wanted.

There was no way that I could post about that without everyone knowing that something was up!  Cereal for breakfast, toast for lunch and pasta for dinner…

At first, I was worried about the lack of nutrients that I was consuming, but I was reassured that during your first trimester, you just eat what you can.  The baby is so small that they don’t need much at this point anyways.

Now that I am in my second trimester (yay!), I am feeling great.  I have started to exercise again and am eating more and more like my normal self.  Each week seems to be better and better and it is becoming more and more exciting that we are expecting a little one on March 26, 2011! 🙂

Now that it is finally out in the open in the blog world, I can’t wait to write about my eating and exercising during pregnancy.  I am trying to stick with my normal routine of eating real food and working out, but I definitely give in more to snacks and desserts and have been much better at listening to my body to give it the rest it needs.  I haven’t noticed any weird cravings yet, but I’m sure those come with the territory.

Thanks for letting me share our next adventure with you! 🙂

the maxwell house hotel – seattle, wa

During the second part of our trip to Seattle, WA, we stayed in a fun and modern hotel right in Seattle Center.

The hotel is definitely worth mentioning because I loved the atmosphere so much!

The Maxwell House Hotel

The hotel ‘symbol’ was a pineapple!  Did you know that pineapples are seen as a welcome symbol?  That is why some people have a pineapple door knocker or place a pineapple sculpture above their doorways.

Anyways, we checked in.

And, they had pineapple cupcakes and coffee waiting upon arrival!

We headed up to our room, to find these carpets by the elevators.

So fun!

Inside our room was very funky and modern as well.

I loved the colors!

The hotel was located on Roy Street, which is one block from Seattle Center and a few blocks from Queen Anne.  It was a great location.  Perfect to walk down to the water in the morning, and perfect to take the Monorail home at night!
