exercise guilt?

I was so exhausted from my run yesterday morning and full from our dinner last night, that I slept right through my alarm this morning.  I remember pushing snooze at 5am, and the next thing I knew it was 6:30!

Since, I was now in a rush, I toasted up a Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel English Muffin for breakfast.  Spread with AlmondHaze nut butter on one side, and Crofter’s North America spread (blueberry!) on the other.

The Almond Haze is my new favorite nut butter.  If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d invest in another jar asap!

Mid-morning, I sipped some Spice Tea, and got a great saying on the teabag tag: Share your strengths, not your weaknesses. So great!

Lunch came around quickly today, but I was ready to eat.  We don’t have many veggies in our fridge this week because we never went grocery shopping, so I am trying to make some type of healthy meal with what we have!  I’ll be missing my greens by the end of the week, I know it, but my wallet will love it!  My lunch bag still seems pretty full for not grocery shopping.

Anyways, I put together a yummy lunch: 0% Fage, banana, homemade granola and a packet of honey peanut butter.  Can you believe that this granola is still just as great as the day I made it?!  I’ve been storing it in a glass airtight container and it stores perfectly.

I mixed it all together – delicious!  And, refilled about half way through. 🙂

Along with some dark chocolate leaves for dessert, which I may or may not have put right into the yogurt.

This lunch was tasty, but was a food combiners nightmare!  I mixed dairy and nuts – and my tummy noticed…ugh.

Once my tummy was feeling up to par, I snacked on some crackers and hummus before my commute home.  This is my new favorite hummus from Trader Joe’s.  It has 3 layers: roasted red pepper, original and cilantro.

Dinner turned out delicious!  I used what we had in our cabinets and fridge and came up with a Hearty Pasta Sauce.

I chopped up 1/2 an onion, a handful of fingerling potatoes and one bunch of kale.  In one pan, I steamed the kale and sauteed it a bit while covered over low heat.  Once wilted, I set aside.

In a separate pan, I sauteed the onion and potatoes.

I also added about 1/2 cup frozen peas to the mix for color.

After the onion and potatoes were mostly cooked through, I added in about 3/4 jar of Tomato Basil Marinara sauce (try to find a basic sauce without sugar and oils).

I simmered the sauce until hot and bubbly!

While everything was cooking, I also cooked some whole wheat pasta.  This made a great dinner!  I added a mound of kale to my plate, then topped it with a little pasta, a lot of sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

I was craving veggies for dinner, and this hit the spot.  Yum!

After dinner, some dark chocolate with ginger!

Thought of the day

Does anyone feel guilty when they don’t fit exercise into their day?  I know that I sometimes do.  Not all the time, but when I am training for something and have a training plan laid out for me, I do feel guilty when I skip a day.  Rest is just as important, if not more important, as exercising in some cases.  It is important to get rest so that you do not injure yourself, however, some days I have no excuses – I just don’t want to run!  Caitlin over at Healthy Tipping Point talked about Exercise Guilt on her blog yesterday and I thought that it was very interesting.  I am sure that many women (and men) have severe cases of exercise guilt!  I agree with all of her points though.  To me, it is more important to look at my weekly or monthy workouts, instead of looking day by day.  When I see what I have done the past few weeks, I don’t feel nearly as bad when I just need a day off!

After all this talk about exercising, I decided that I needed a day off today after my 10 mile run yesterday- and I don’t feel guilty about it at all!
